In an effort to keep our children entertained in the midst of the quarantine, my husband and I planned a fire pit night this weekend. We spent time as a family just sitting around the fire as well as cooking hot dogs and smores. Our youngest is eight years old and still a bit afraid of the fire. She wants to cook her hot dog herself but her fear keeps her far enough away to ensure she mostly eats lukewarm hot dogs at best. This weekend my husband decided he was going to teach her how to cook one properly. He coaxed her to get close enough to reach the fire and he crouched down just inches behind her. She felt the heat from the fire and expressed her fear that she was going to be burned. I glanced over right at that moment and this is what I saw. Her Daddy slid his hand to completely cover hers. He would feel the heat and shield her hand from it.
This image hit my heart immediately hence the reason I took this picture. As we see so much fire all around us in our world during this season, it is hard not to focus on the heat and potential harm. But just as my husband’s hand covered our baby girl’s hand shielding her from harm and calming her fears, our Father God is covering each of us during this time. He has us.
The promise has never been that we would not face hardships. The promise is that He will never leave us and God is bound by His own faithfulness to keep His promises to us.
Prayer
Abba, thank you for your faithfulness in the midst of our storm. Thank you for delivering us from fear and filling us with your peace and hope, safely guiding us to where you intend for us to be on the other side. In Jesus name, amen.
