“So, Samuel took the horn of oil and anointed him in the presence of his brothers, and from that day on the Spirit of the LORD came upon David in power.” -1 Samuel 16:13
“From that day on…” Those are the most powerful words to me in this verse. Because we know the hardships David would face before the throne and how he would later fall, there is great comfort in these words for us as well as the clients we see. God already knew all things but still the words “from that day on” whispered over his life.
- When David was hiding in the cave to keep Saul from killing him, from this day on.
- When David had the opportunity to kill Saul, from this day on. When he fell with Bathsheba, from this day on.
- When David had Urriah killed to cover his own sin, from this day on.
- When his son died and he sat in ashes and sackcloth, from this day on.
- When he brought the Ark back, from this day on
From fear to courage to failure to grief to triumph- FROM THAT DAY ON! The Spirit of the Lord was on his life in every season.
