There’s something this piece of driftwood and I have in common…Besides the fact that it looks like a piece of poo sometimes. But that it’s weathered and worn…It has been through some storms. It knows what it feels like to lose pieces of itself with every violent toss forced by a wave. It has submerged into some of the deepest and darkest pits. And while some people wouldn’t give this poo-looking piece of driftwood a second glance…There’s someone who sees a beautiful piece of art; handcrafted by the Creator and perfectly prepared for a place of display to be admired.
Perhaps like this piece of driftwood, you’ve been through some storms. You have lost pieces of yourself and don’t think you’re “whole” enough to be used for anything. You’ve been blinded by the dark places. You’ve been under the waters of depression and anxiety but just as you can begin to see the glimmers of hope for the surface the rip currents of bad news pulls you further under. Allow me to point something out to you friend. If it had not suffered greatly…If it was untouched by the very storms that gave it its character…Would it be so sought after?Artists from all over flock to our shores in search of pieces of beached driftwood and wouldn’t ya know the more mangled, distorted, and seemingly damaged—the better?!Please hear me.God is not interested in perfect people.
That scar on your heart, mind, spirit, and even your body is what draws Him near!He is the Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. He tenderly cares for those with a broken heart. He hastens to mightily defend the weak.He provides abundantly for the hungry. He comforts the fearful.ABBA is not looking past you waiting for an untouched two by four to wash up at His feet, friend…He is looking OVER you and He’s waiting for you to lay down all your troubles, sins, and trauma at His feet because He wants YOU (and all the parts of you that you think disqualifies you—yeah, He wants those too.)He loves you.He delights in you.Now love Him back and allow yourself to delight in Him.You deserve it.Not because of all you’ve been through but because of what He went through in order to secure that privilege for you.
PRAYER
God, thank you for making me your handiwork. Although life has bumped and bruised me at times, I am still a masterpiece and you love me in all those scared places. Your healing touch restores me in every way and at every level of my being. In Jesus name.
